Write post for wordpress blog on Nokia Symbian S60 mobile phones
A lot people including myself want to have the possibility to update their blog anytime and anywhere. Mobile phones with full keyboard make it much convenient for messaging, emailing as well as blogging. That is one of the reasons I bought a Nokia E63, which seems to be a ideal mobile phone for mobile blogging. However, after I did some research on the Internet, I found there are not so many choices of software for mobile blogging. Wordmobi is my first candidate.
Wordmobi is based on Python S60, which means that users must install Python S60 environment first to run Wordmobi. Somebody said Wordmobi needs to be installed on the phone memory, but I installed it on the external MicroSD memory and it works fine. After Wordmobi is running, users need to set corresponding blog accounts, which must be wordpress based. Except Url, username and password, there is also an option for API Key, in which I filled in my wordpress API key in one blog and left it blank in another, both of them work. Users also need to check the “Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols” option of the writing setting in wordpress dashboard.
When blog accounts have been set, users can sync posts/comments on their blogs into wordmobi, view and edit them as well as compose new post. Wordmobi also support other basic operations of wordpress such as saving draft. Users also can insert images taken by their phone cameras. There is also option to view statistics of the blog, but it seems to need a plug-in installed on server side. The edit mode of wordmobi is purely html but not WYSIWYG. Users only can preview there post after editing.
Major limitations of wordmobi to me is that it only supports blog based on wordpress and it only works on Symbian S60 phones. Wordmobi is convenient tool for professional users but too complicate for average users. BTW, It works on my E63 but not on my N82. I guess the reason is the compatible problem of Python S60 platform.
