Comparison of mobile plugins for Wordpress

Nowadays, more and more people use their mobile phones to visit the Internet. Though modern handsets are much more powerful than the imode mobile phone I used for surfing in 2003, mobile websites still offer better users experience on most mobile phones. There are many mobile plugins for Wordpress, but how well are they working? Here are some comparison of mobile plugins for Wordpress.


There is a post listed 10 mobile plugin for WordPress, but no detailed comparison has been given. I did my research based on the test results from ready.mobi, which gives quantitative analysis of mobile websites. I first excluded plugins like Mobilize by Mippin Wordpress Plugin, which use redirecting. Secondly, I kept plugins like Wapple Architect Mobile Plugin for Wordpress and WordPress Mobile Edition out of comparison, which could not be used directly without configuration. Then I only tested plugins with enough popularity and rate.

Finally I have 4 mobile plugins for WordPress left and their comparison is as below:

1. on WordpressMobile.mobi it is claimed that this plugin has 50973 downloads (Oct. 7, 2009). And I also found some arguments about this plugin and its author. Anyhow, what I am interested in is only the performance of this plugin. Ready.mobi gave a rate of 4/5 to my blog under test with WordPressMobile.mobi.

I think fails of “XHTML Mobile Profile” and “Valid Markup” are crucial errors.

2. MobilePress has 36036 download (Oct. 7, 2009) according to the WordPress official website.

Except XHTML mobile profiler and Valid Markup fails, there is one more fail of MobilePrss and it results in a rate of 4/5.

3. WordPress Mobile Pack has a smaller download number (14967 on Oct. 7, 2009) but it gets the best rate of 5/5 from ready.mobi

The only fail of WordPress Mobile Pack  seems to be a minor problem.

4. WP viewMobile has much less download (1932 on Oct 7, 2009) and it got a rate of 4/5 with 3 fails similar to MobilePress.

After all, WordPress Mobile Pack is the obvious winner and it will be the choice for my blog site. One thing needs to be mentioned is that the result is also influenced by the content of the website.
