Tips to solve unable to install problem of Talkonaut and other software on Nokia E71x or other symbian phones
Since AT&T is offering Nokia E71x for free to customers with new contracts, it brings many new users of Nokia Symbian smartphons. They find it quite different to install software on E71x comparing with on Windows Mobile system. A major problem users of E71x are facing is the certificate check. When they are trying to install third party software like Talkonaut, most time they cannot proceed due to certificate errors.
In fact, the offical web site of Talkonaut have already given their instruction:
“Before you proceed with installation on Nokia, please follow these instructions to disable Certificate Check on your mobile phone:
1) Open Application Manager
2) Choose Options, then Settings
3) Switch Software installation to *All*
4) Switch Online certificate check to *Off*”
After that, though there will still be a message saying that the application is untrusted., the installation can e continued eventually.
This tip is not only working for Talkonaut, but also many other softwares. However, it doesn’t mean users of E71x can install any software without certificate. In fact, these software have their certificate though their certifcate cannot pass the online check. If users of Nokia E71x or other Symbian smartphones want to install software without certificate or with invalid/expired certificate, the setting change above is not enough. To install this kind of software, users need to sign these software by themselves with a valid certificate or hack their phone to disable security check completely.
There are many sites proving free certificates. What users have to do is to submit their IMEI, which can obtain by type *#06# on their phones.
