How to solve “Active desktop recovery” error
Long time ago, the desktop of the PC I am using in office turned to a white screen with notice of “Active destop recovery” after starting from an abnormal shutdown as below:

More embarrassing was that “Restore my Active Desktop” button would lead to some kind of script error and the long instruction below the button didn’t help anything at all.
I could not solve it after long time struggling. Though I could ask for help from IT support, I didn’t want to bother myself to spend hours on the phone with them. On the other hand, it seemed many colleagues just used they computer with such a white desktop without any problem. I became on of them and ignored the strange feeling.
After almost one year like this, today I heard the colleague shouted: “Damn! My active desktop needs recovery again!” Then he started to looking for the golden tip he got from IT support. In a few minutes, he shouted again: “Aha! It is back again.” I used to think that tip needs administrator privileges, which I don’t have, to run Regedit. But my colleague told me that it was not necessary, so why not just have a try. What I had to do was
1. Run the Regedit;
2. Change DeskHtmlVersion key value of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components to 0
3. Then restart the system or Log out and Log in.
After these steps, everything came to normal again. I felt quite good though the real difference was only change the white desktop back to blue
