Today, one of the most popular mobile VoIP/IM software on Symbian S60, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android and Maemo platforms, Fring announced an important update to version 4.0, which enables free free mobile video calls on Symbain S60 smartphones.
As one of the most popular mobile VoIP software, Fring has close beta version on Android now. To preview Fringdroid, Android users need to send an email to earlyaccess@fring.com and will get an invitation early next week.
Fring, as one of the best mobile IM software, provides many powerful features such as VoIP, chatting with different IM networks and son on. Most of these features are provided as add-ons. One of the latest add-ons is twitter 2.0, which is far better than the previous one. Though the twitter 2.0 add-on of Fring is still not as good as Gravity as a mobile twitter client, the advantage is that users only need one program to go across different IM/social networks.
Fring is my favorite mobile IM client since I changed to Nokia S60 smartphone. It is the first really mobile VoIP software I used. Today, I received the notification that it is updated to version 3.40.28/29. This update just fix some bugs and there is no major improvement. So the Pros and cons of Fring remain the same.
In general, this official Skype Java mobile client is almost nothing new comparing to third party Java mobile VoIP/IM client. If your mobile phone is supported by Fring, it will be a better choice.
By choosing correct wireless data plans, the mobile VoIP can be even cheaper. For example, subscribers of Tempo Music from Mobistar (Belgium) only have to pay 0.25 euro for each session (less than 1 hour or 1 MB traffic). If Fring or Talkonaut only uses less than 100KB traffic, it means users can talk to more than 10 minutes for 0.25 euro. And for users with “unlimited” data plan, the average price can be even cheaper.
Nowadays Voip providers have the next aim that is the field of the mobile procducts. The field of the mobile products has a big advandage comparing with the residential telecom services, so does mobile Voip services. The mobile Voip services not only bring more convenient but also offer lower price. Comparing with Voip services based on the broad band, the mobile Voip services have their own features and different implementations.
