Motorola A3100 vs. HTC Touch Pro 2
Motorola will deliver their next important product, the new Android base smartphone Cliq (Dext), to market very soon. The mode they released before Cliq (Dext) was A3100, which was based on Windows Mobile. On the other hand, all Android based smartphones existing on market (G1/Magic/Hero) were from HTC, who obtained their reputation from Windows Mobile based smartphones. Let’s make a comparison between Windows Mobile phones made by Motorola (A3100) and HTC (Touch Pro 2) to have a feeling about how products from these two company differ.
- Design: Both Motorola A3100 and HTC Touch Pro 2 have smooth shapes, while their colors are also similar. The back side of A3100 is more comfortable and its metal back cover is also better for heat sink. However, the TP2 looks more professsional.
- Screen: Touch Pro 2 is the absolute winner, not matter size, color or resolution. It makes TP2 good to surf on the internet. A3100 is too mini, though Touch Pro 2 is a little bit too heavy. Both screens have brightness automatic adjustment.
- Stylus: The one for A3100 is better, though most time people don’t need it.
- Handwriting: Both A3100 and Touch Pro 2 support full screen handwriting. The recolonization speed of TP2 is much fast. A3100 can have smaller writing zones in some applications.
- Address book: Touch Pro 2 has more a convenient contact searching mode, which can be the improvement of the newer Windows Mobile 6.5. However, the searching is a little bit slow.
- Signal reception: TP2 is comparable with A3100 concerning signal reception, which used to be the strength of Motorola and the weakness of HTC.
- Sound quality: Both speakers are clear and bluetooth headphones are well supported.
- Camera: A3100 has flash while TP2 doesn’t. In general, it seems Motolora improved their camera in their latest phone modes but it is still a weakness of HTC.
- Web surfing: Both have smooth surfing with UCWeb. Touch Pro 2 spends less time to open pages and has a better display.
- FM radio: TP2 has FM radio while only internet ratio can be installed on A3100.
- Text input: A3100 is a slightly better virtual keyboard input while Touch Pro 2 has a physical qwerty keyboard.
- Speed: TP2 is obvious faster than A3100. TP2 with 3D FLO is more smooth than A3100 with Moto Today.
- Standby time: A3100 is a little bit longer.
- Touch Pro 2 has more features like accelerometer sensor and conference call.
- A3100 has standard 3.5mm jack while TP2 has HTC property jack, which cannot connect to headphone while charging.
- Touch Pro 2 has bigger sound volume.
- TP2 is much more expensive than A3100.
Touch Pro 2 is a nice mobile phone worth its price. But its physical qwerty keyboard is only necessary for users need to input a lot of text. Motorola doesn’t have any advantage on hardware anymore. Maybe the software is more important for competition of their Android mobile phones.
