Using the camera of your mobile phone to capture the word to be translated

Imaging you are traveling in a foreign country and you don’t know the local language, what you can do if you find a sign or instruction in the local language? Take out your mobile phone equipped with camera, focus on a word and the translation will displayed on the screen. When you are moving the focus point of camera, the translation will change correspondingly. This awesome feature is not only an imagination but the highlight of next version of Youdao mobile dictionary.

Youdao dictionary is a English-Chinese dictionary developed by Netease, a famous Chinese internet company. Youdao dictionary has online, PC and mobile version. Recently, there is a video published on internet that shows a new feature of the Youdao dictionary mobile version: Using the camera of your mobile phone to capture the word to be translated.

The video is captured during the internal meeting of Youdao dictionary mobile team. So it is not officially released yet. Maybe this new version of Youdao mobile dictionary will be available in a few weeks.

Note: Youdao mobile dictionary only supports Nokia Symbian phones at this moment. The old version can be downloaded from m.youdao.com.

It is a pity that Youdao mobile dictionary only can be used translated between English and Chinese. Hope other mobile dictionary software will have this feature soon.
