BMAX, a third party dialer of BetaMax VoIP products on Android and iPhone

Recently I found a mobile application on Android/iPhone called BMAX and a review about it. However, there seems to be some argument about the information in that review. Here I would like to give some personal opinion about this software.

First, there are several points to be clarified:

  1. BMAX is not a real mobile VoIP software that call transfer compressed voice data over wireless connections such as EDGE/3G/WiFi. It is just a dialer, which provide a convenient way to use call back service of VoIP providers;
  2. BMAX only can be used with VoIP services from BetaMax, which have mixed reputation among users.
  3. BMAX is not an official mobile software from BetaMax but developed by third party.

Second, concerning the reason to use BMAX, here are two advantages I can think about:

  1. In BMAX users can define several different VoIP products from BetaMax, which have best rates for different destinations, BMAX will automatically choose a products with the best rate for the destination to dial;
  2. It seems that users also can send cheap international SMS via services from BetaMax.

For the first advantage, in fact, some other mobile software or services also provide similar features. For example, in Talkonaut, users also can define dialing plan with different VoIP providers. The problem is that Talkonaut is not available on Android (Its developers don’t link Android, though they may release a iPhone version in the future.) So BMAX can has its market even it is not so advanced. But there is another limitation to have this advantage: BetaMax only allows one credit card links to one account. It means users need different methods to purchase more than one account of BetaMax VoIP products.

In general, BMAX may be a handy dialer to make VoIP calls from Android/iPhone. But more than that it will be just overvalued.
