Palringo, a mobile IM software supporting multiple accounts on the same community

Fring is the mobile IM software I use mostly, but it has some limitations. For example, it only support one account on one IM network. In Other words, if you have several Gtalk accounts, you can use only one at the same time. This restriction is also on most other mobile IM software, such as Nimbuzz, Talkonaut and so on. If you need to use multiple accounts on the same community, Palringo is one of the choice.

Palringo supports multiple IM protocols such as MSN, Yahoo, AIM/ICQ, Gtalk, Facebook and so on. But no Skype and SIP support like Fring and Nimbuzz have. I am not sure whether Palringo supports Facebook better than Fring, since Facebook support on Fring in fact is only a notification. The UI of Palringo looks nice, but it is a little big strange because the right soft key is used for option menu.

Users can send text, voice message (which is called Push to Call on Palringo) and picture with Palringo. It doesn’t support real-time voice chat. But I think the voice message on Palringo and Contacts on Ovi has some advantages comparing to the real-time voice chat under certain conditions. For example, when the wireless network is not fast enough or the person you want to talk to doesn’t have time at that moment, voice message will be helpful.

A real cons of Palringo is that it uses too much battery in standby mode, which is not good for people want to keep online for 24/7. Palringo uses about the same amount of battery as TiviPhone and Nimbuzz do, which about 5 times higher than Fring and OctroTalk do. Unless you really need to use multiple accounts on the same IM network, I didn’t find the advantage to have Palringo instead of other IM software.
