2 modes to Twitter via Fring on mobile phones
Fring, as one of the best mobile IM software, provides many powerful features such as VoIP, chatting with different IM networks and son on. Most of these features are provided as add-ons. One of the latest add-ons is twitter 2.0, which is far better than the previous one. Though the twitter 2.0 add-on of Fring is still not as good as Gravity as a mobile twitter client, the advantage is that users only need one program to go across different IM/social networks.
The previous twitter add-on is a chat only mode. If fact, after subscribing this add-on, a contact called “twitter” will be added to the buddy list. Users can chat with this “twitter” contact as a normal buddy. All update of tweets followed by users will be delivered as messages sent by this “twitter” and all messages sent to this “twitter” will be displayed on twitter as update of users’ states. It is difficult to explore all tweets users are interested in as Fring doesn’t have conversation history. The function of this old twitter add-on is very basic. Its only advantage is that users can access it very fast.
The twitter 2.0 add-on of Fring provides more features. Users can search, view and send tweets. There are also options to use @ to reply, open link in tweet and view the profile of user from each tweet. It almost has everything necessary for twitter. However, it is a little bit slow to be access. Sometime it takes minutes to start the new twitter 2.0 add-on. Here are two demo of these two twitter add-ons on Fring.
