More thinking about Nokia N900
In the post yesterday, I am not going to buy Nokia N900 is not because itself is not attractive but I can use the same amount of money to buy other devices that meet me requirement better. However, if I want a single device that can provide most necessary function, N900 will be a good option.
One of the biggest concern of N900 is lack of applications. Yes, there are much less applications on Maemo OS than on Windows Mobile, iPhone, even the Symbian OS from Nokia. But if look at which is really necessary for daily tasks, there are already quite some powerful software on Meamo, for example, better media-player than on iPhone (from codec/format support and resolution point), Fring for IM, Web browser based on Mozilla and so on.
Moreover, there is a palm OS emulator on Maemo called Garnet VM that make it possible to run thousands of class palm software on N900.
N900 is more powerful than its competitors like iPhone, Palm Pre and high-end windows mobile phones from HTC in multimedia domain. For example, N900 can make 800×480 video @25fps, the Samsung i8910, which has same TI OMAP 3430 CPU, is the only mobile phone can provide better video capture ability by now (as far as I know). But it is a pity that N900 only provide AV out instead of HDMI.
