I was quite excited when the Nokia N900 mobile computer is officially announced after rumors about it were around for quite a long time. It looks really fancy and it is also a big step of Nokia in the competition of high-end mobile phone market. The difference between N900 and its predecessor N810, N800 and N770 is that N810/N800/N770 lack of built-in access to GSM/WCDMA networks, which limits the target market. But now it seems that N810/N800/N770 help to perfect the maemo OS and build up enough applications.

However, after one night I asked myself:” Is this something I really want to buy?” So I list the pros and cons of Nokia N900 for me to make my conclusion.

Pros:

1. Fancy touch screen UI with OpenGL support. The contacts information management part is really impressive.
2. Powerful multimedia function. The TI OMAP 3430 is really one of most powerful CPU for this kind of applications.
The video codec support of N900 is way more better than IPhone, Palm Pre, Android and other competitors.
3. Adobe Flash™ 9.4 support, which is also a very useful feature that surpasses IPhone and so on.
4. Web browser based on Mozilla, which can provide user experience comparable to Safari on IPhone.

Other features are also nice but not so outstanding comparing with other high-end mobile phones/MIDs.

Cons:
1. No Navigator and stand-alone number keys which makes the physical full QWERTY keyboard less usable.
2. Reduced screen size comparing with N810 and the battery is a lot bit too small for this kind device.
3. Pricey.

After all, Nokia N900 is a nice device to have. But for value of money, I would rather to have a middle class phone like E72 plus a netbook like Dell Latitude 2100.
