Navigation problem of GarminXT mobile on Nokia N82
It was the first time I went to the stores that I had to go to this morning. So I use the GarminXT mobile on my Nokia N82 as navigator.
Since I wanted to go to 2 shops within walking distance, I switched the GPS to walking mode after I parked the car. I forgot to switch back to driving mode when I was going back home. As the consequence, the GarminXT mobile either indicated a wrong way or kept on rerouting.
I found this problem only after I got on the highway then switched by to driving mode. But the GarminXT kept on reporting “lost satellite signal “. Then I changed to Nokia Maps, but it also could not lock the satellite signal.
I guess that after switching from walking mode to driving mode, the GPS needs to be reinitialized, But when the speed is high (about 120 km/h), neither GarminXT no Nokia Maps could not lock the satellite signal though the A-GPS option is always on.
At the end, I started Google Maps and had the GPS signal back in a few minutes. After that, GarminXT mobile worked fine again with good signal quality.
It can be that Google Maps has better algorithm to initial the GPS module or the GSM signal was just switched to a new cell. But according to my own experience, Google Maps really can help to speed locking the satellite signal.
