amAze, the best free mobile Java GPS software

When I was still using the Motorola E680i, I had installed Mobile GMaps, a Java ME software could display maps from various sources. It was very helpful when I had to find some places. After 3 years, My Motorola E680i has been replaced by Nokia N82, which has built-in GPS and Nokia Maps software. Moreover, many non-smartphones, such as SE C905, Samsung S8300 and LG KM900, also have built-in GPS. But it is more difficult to find Satisfactory GPS software for those non-smartphones. Even the mobile version of Google Maps, which is much powerful than Mobile GMaps, is not suitable for the car navigation. However, to my surprise, I found a mobile Java GPS software called amAze, which can be installed on hundreds of Java-enabled mobile phones. It includes features like routing, POI searching, map browsering, voice navigation. After, amAze is free to use. Though amAze also has Windows Mobile and BlackBerry versions, it is the best free GPS software for Java-enabled non-smartphones.

Download and install amAze is quite easy. Users can download to PC first or to their mobile phones directly. The difference is that users have to write down the username and password display on the download page, if they choose to download to PC first.

As the map data used by amAze is downloaded from internet, users would better to have an unlimited data plan. amAze uses map data from NAVTEQ and the information is quite basic, which is as detailed as the mobile Google Maps. Another problem of amAze is that its reception of GPS signal is not very reliable.

Anyhow, as a free mobile Java GPS software, amAze provides voice navigation and other necessary features. It can be a good supplement with the Google Maps mobile version.
