Talkonaut is a powerful IM and VoIP client on Java mobile phone. Maybe you have already heard about it. But the latest version 3 has lots of improvement in features, stability, user interface and speed.

Talkoanut is a totally free IM client supporting voice chat powered by Gtalk2VoIP. Theoretically, it can run on all mobile phone supporting Java, including Windows Mobile and Palm. Talkonaut supports Jabber, so you can chat with your friends on Google talk, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo!, AIM and make voice calls to Gtalk, MSN, Yahoo!.

First, you have to download and install Talkonaut. You can visit get.talkonaut.com with your mobile phone or download .jar .jad to PC and transfer them to the mobile phone. You can also send SMS to get WAP push link. The installation is very simple, just follow instructions. After installation, you can chose which IM network you want to login.

There are some screen shots below:

If you receive no data after a long period during login, it may be failed. Then you have to choose HTTP as connection type:

The login procedure take some time (about half to one minutes — depends on the length of your buddy list), but as long as you see data received, it means the connection type you choose is correct — it supports WAP connection but has problem in some cases.

After successful login, the user interface is as below:

Talkonaut supports touch screen or key board and the operation is very smooth. As the screen of mobile phone is small, Talkonaut will display messages you receive in the current screen.

It is highly recommend to read instructions on the official webite

Of course, Talkonaut is not perfect. It needs quite some memory and sometime will hang up. Please remember:

1. It is not official software released by Google;

2. The mobile operator will charge the data transmission.

Talkonaut is my favorite IM/VoIP software on Java mobile phones. The most important feature is that it provide an open platform that you can define your own SIP provider. Then you can make VoIP calls from your mobile phone with callback mode.

Here is the tab to define your own SIP providers:

I added VoIPDiscount and VoIPCheap as my SIP providers.

BTW, you can add service@splinter.net into your buddy list to get 0.25 USD free trial credit to make VoIP calls to PSTN, which is also powered by Gtalk2VoIP.
