Seven, a free push mail software for Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android, Palm and Java enable mobile phones
In past 3 years I have already tried tens of free email software on mobile phones, in the end I decided to stay with Seven, a free push mail software for different mobile phone platforms. Seven has Windows Mobile, Symbian S60 V3/V5, UIQ, Android, Palm and Java ME version available, though I only has experience with the Symbian S60 V3 version.
Seven supports mainstream free email services including Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail/MSN, AOL and POP/IMAP enabled email accounts. There are also other features such as set Start/Stop time for Weekdays/Weekend, message truncated size of each email account, folders to be synchronized and so on. Seven integrates with the mobile phone’s messaging menu pretty well. But they are not most attractive features of Seven.
Very low power consumption and very fast email pushing are most important features that make Seven better than it competitors. Some tests show that Seven will push new arriving emails with one minute in most cases and it only consumes several kilo bytes data traffic per day and about 0.01W power.
Another feature makes Seven unique to me is that it supports OWA (Outlook Web Access) email accounts, which is a huge advantage. This means that users like me can sync not only email but also the calender and contacts on their companies’ Exchange server. Only Seven and Mail for Exchange from Nokia support Exchange email account among those free mobile email software I have tried. The advantage of Seven over Mail for Exchange is that Mail for Exchange doesn’t support multiple email accounts/protocols. Moreover, Mail for Exchange doesn’t work or work well with some companies’ Exchange server due to security policy settings. Except Exchange email accounts, Seven can also sync calendar and contacts from Gmail, contacts from Yahoo or MSN/Hotmail. This is also a very convenient feature, but if users sync their mobile phones with multiple email accounts, they may have duplicated contacts and other information.
Seven is free to use as beta software for individual customers. It will send international SMS to a UK mobile phone number during installation or when users add new email accounts. If users don’t want this happen, they can put their phone is offline mode and use WiFi to complete installation or adding new email accounts. Changing the message center number can also prevent sending these SMS. Users can find and delete these SMS from outbox under messaging menu after installation and adding new email account.
There are also some shortcomings of Seven:
1. Seven can only be installed on the phone memory and attachments in received emails can only be downloaded to the phone memory also;
2. Seven will make it slow to enter the messaging menu;
3. Seven cannot change data connection between WiFi and 2G/3G automatically;
4. Seven only can pause email pushing for all email account instead of one or several of them;
5. The server of Seven is not very stable, sometimes I could not access my email accounts due to problems of Seven’s sever.
Anyhow, if you are looking for a free push mail software, with low power consumption, in time email pushing, ability to sync calender and contacts with Gmail, for Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android, Palm or Java enable mobile phones, Seven may be the best choice for you. If you need a mobile email software supporting OWA, Seven may be the only choice for you.
