How to install Gmail Mobile on Nokia E71x
Though the built-in mail client of Nokia E71x supports Gmail quite well, the official Gmail mobile client still has its advantage:
1. Display the content of attached common documents like PDF, office file and so on;
2. The search mail feature is really powerful.
So many people want to install the Gmail mobile client on their E71x. But some of them got error message like “Sorry, the Gmail application does not work on your E71″ and others are annoyed by the security question about whether you want to allow gmail mobile client to access internet.
For the first problem, it seems that Google will generate the jad file according to the model of users’ mobile phone. But for some reason, the jad file is not correctly generated for some Nokia E71x users. But these user can download the jar file from the link below:
http://m.google.com/mail/download/binaries/L1/2.0.6/mail_n60-3.jar
and it can be installed and started from Nokia E71x without the jad file.
But the problem is that without the jad file, the user may have to face permission setting problem. To avoid this problem, Nokia E71x users can click here to download a working jad file. Users can do online installation from the jad file directly without the jar file on local memory or do local installation by put the jad and jar file at the same location (access to internet may still be necessary for certificate check).
With the valid jad file, users can set permissions of Gmail mobile java client from the app. manager. But there are only “not allowed, ask every time, ask first time” but no “always allow” for internet access control. It seems to be the limitation of Gmail mobile java client and means that users have to give the permission of access internet to Gmail mobile java client at least once when start this program. Users have to apply third party patches to Nokia E71x to get ride of the certificate restriction.
Though Gmail mobile java client can has permission to access users’ data, but it can not download attachment in received emails or send emails with attachment.
So I did as requested on my e71x and it comes and installed but some type of error actually prevents me from typing in my username and password, ie it doesn’t allow me the pop up box to type in the username.
