Pros and cons, review of Nimbuzz

Nimbuzz is my backup choice of Mobile IM program after Fring. In fact, I started to use Nimbuzz even before Fring, since the initial version of Nimbuzz was based on Java ME and when I was still using my Motorola E680i, Fring didn’t has J2ME version yet. Though Nimbuzz has a shorter history than Fring especially on smartphones, it developed very quickly and make itself a serious competitor of Fring. Here is a brief summary of Nimbuzz’s advantage and disadvantage

Pros and cons, review of Fring

Fring is my favorite mobile IM client since I changed to Nokia S60 smartphone. It is the first really mobile VoIP software I used. Today, I received the notification that it is updated to version 3.40.28/29. This update just fix some bugs and there is no major improvement. So the Pros and cons of Fring remain the same.

Is it already cheaper to make calls with mobile VoIP?

By choosing correct wireless data plans, the mobile VoIP can be even cheaper. For example, subscribers of Tempo Music from Mobistar (Belgium) only have to pay 0.25 euro for each session (less than 1 hour or 1 MB traffic). If Fring or Talkonaut only uses less than 100KB traffic, it means users can talk to more than 10 minutes for 0.25 euro. And for users with “unlimited” data plan, the average price can be even cheaper.

TringMe introduces Gtalk-based calling

TringMe now allows making calls from Google Talk (Gtalk). As you know, natively, Gtalk doesn’t support making phone calls. This is yet another feature which underlines TringMe’s core philosophy of not requiring any software installation for purposes of using TringMe. If you already have Gtalk installed, then with this capability, making a worldwide call to any phone or SIP URI from Gtalk is as simple as sending a message using Gtalk. Calls made from Gtalk can be terminated on all devices that TringMe currently supports.

The rate to call land lines and mobile phones is only 1.45 p, which is bloody cheap (almost the same as Betamax including VAT). You can use Localphone from a hardware/software VoIP phone or from your land line/mobile phones via local access numbers, which is very convenient.
